Tetsuya Noguchi Exhibition — In Armor: Toyama Edition

Sat., June.08.2019 ~ Sun., August.25

Noguchi approaches even dignified subjects with a sense of playful humor, creating a new style of contemporary art that has found itself in the spotlight.

This is the Hokuriku region’s first exhibition of a large collection of Tetsuya Noguchi’s work.

We hope you’ll take advantage of this opportunity to experience his unique new style of contemporary art, here in Toyama.

The contemporary artist Tetsuya Noguchi combines modern materials like resin and plastic with techniques such as carving and painting. Perhaps the most distinctive characteristic of his work is that the people depicted in his art all wear armor. His art inhabits a mysterious world, with sculptures small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and curious interminglings of old Japanese paintings and modern society, playing with and defying the modern stereotypes of the samurai.
